The PBS presentation raised many points, that as a person who is part of the social networks like Facebook, and myspace, are oblivious to. One might ask how we are oblivious to these many dangers, in reality we are not, we simply know when to put up our guard. Facebook for example, is a site where you basically show your life and who you are to the rest of the world. Though some people may think this is dangerous, mostly the parents, there are ways to block people and keep your profile private for only your friends to see. Although there are incidents, where people have died, or where there were incidents of sexual abuse, with these social networking sites, one must be smart. You cannot just add anyone and expect them to be your friend. These incidents are usually found among the very young crowd, where if they have any questions they can simply ask one of their hundreds of friends. Thinking that they will not be judged or that there are other people like them out there, somewhere among the millions of people on Facebook or Myspace. I personally have never been part of the whole online bullying, but it all seems to be something of the past. I do not know whether it is because I have grown out of the middle school stage or because people are getting smarter about who they speak to online.

2.

The 21st century is the age of technology, we can do almost anything from our cell phones, we could, email, but airline tickets, arrange a meeting, take pictures, videos and tell everyone how your day was. What the Obama administration did was simply use what was popular within the young crowd which was using the internet. His use of the internet can by held responsible for the immense support he received. The use of interactive sites, and social networking sites enabled Barack Obama to become a household name even if you were an 8 year old kid, the fact is that that 8 year old kid probably had access to a computer.

3.

Games that allow us to become anyone we want on the internet are now being seen as a way to help people with disabilities. These games allow for the development of social skills for people who lack them. I believe that though these programs do promote the idea of social interaction, people with these problems will change, and only feel like themselves when online. That is another problem with young people and mypsace and or facebook. The idea of being someone completely different online, dual personalities, eventually it will become a problem.
